More Ways to Give

From providing basic care and comfort to equipping our medical staff, every gift counts.

Unique Giving Opportunities

The Nebraska Humane Society gratefully accepts goods and in-kind gifts to help animals at the shelter. Your donations benefit numerous departments year-round—from providing basic care and comfort to equipping our medical staff and our cat and dog enrichment programs, every item counts. We appreciate donations any time of the year—however big or small.

Wish list

We’re always looking for those items that may be cluttering up your garage and junk drawers. Instead of pitching your old blankets and towels, consider donating them to the animals instead. We accept drop-off donations during business hours.

We also accept products on our Amazon wish list and our Chewy wish list.

Faithful Friends Gallery

Your loyal companion (human or animal) can be permanently displayed in our Faithful Friends Gallery. These beautiful metal prints will line a hallway in our dog adopt area and provide an opportunity to honor, recognize or pay tribute to those most important to you, while supporting homeless animals in our community.

Give the gift of Comfort

Help make our cats and dogs more comfortable by donating a cat or dog bed. Kuranda beds are designed to keep cats and dogs comfortable—but they’re also sturdy and easy to clean. The cat beds are raised, providing a cozy perch and increasing floor space, giving cats additional space to roam. Cat towers are also available. They’re design to provide exercise and amusement and relieve stress and boredom. Kuranda has a shelter program that lets you buy a bed for a shelter pet at a reduced price. The beds ship directly here!  It's a hassle-free way to give a good night's sleep to a pet away from home.

Donate a Vehicle

By donating your car, truck, boat, RV, trailer or other vehicle, you can help the more than 24,000 animals that are in need of our help in any given year. Vehicle donations are eligible for a charitable tax deduction and are another way to support the Nebraska Humane Society's effort to save lives. Find out more here!

Community service ideas for youth

Here are some ideas for your group to help animals at the Nebraska Humane Society.

  • Host a penny or coin drive. Call it Pennies for Paws, Dimes for Dogs or Cash for Cats … Whatever you call it, it’s amazing how fast pocket change can add up and provide basic necessities for animals at the shelter.
  • Host a garage sale, bake sale, car wash, or other event to earn money for the shelter animals. One person’s junk might be an animal’s best hope for the future.
  • Sponsor a “special privilege day” at your school, where students or staff must pay for a privilege like chewing gum, wearing hats, wearing jeans, etc.
  • Make the sacrifice and bypass your own birthday or holiday gifts for a donation to the animals.
  • Host a fun run or tournament to benefit the animals. It’s a win-win!
  • Feeling artsy? Design bandanas with adoptable messages for the animals in the shelter to wear.
  • Spend a morning or afternoon at the shelter reading to the animals during adoption hours. All we ask is for minors to be accompanied by an adult.
  • Feeling crafty? Make fleece blankets and tug toys to keep the animals cozy and warm.
  • Form an animal welfare club at your school or organization that meets regularly to discuss animal topics and complete service projects.
  • Hold a neighborhood or community drive to collect items found on our wishlist.
  • Become an ambassador. Create an educational presentation and choose an audience. Choose from a variety of topics: responsible pet ownership; ways to support your local shelter; how to solve pet overpopulation, showing empathy, kindness, compassion and respect for animals; what to do about cruelty and neglect; the mission and purpose of an animal shelter, etc.
